Read and Publish Deals
KAUST's University Library is happy to support research publishing at KAUST by offering many open access publishing agreements in 2023. These transformative agreements will allow KAUST’s corresponding authors to publish their accepted articles in open access mode (in selected journals of publishers listed below) and thus be made openly available at no cost to the author or with a discount. In "Read and Publish" deals the publishing charges are covered by the library subscription, APC (article processing charges) discount deals provide an agreed discount on the APC, while KAUST authors pay the discounted APC. In case we don't have an open access publishing deal with the publisher, KAUST authors are advised to submit an author accepted version of their paper to KAUST Research Repository.

Important note: If a publisher is not listed here, you can still make your research article open access without paying an article processing charge to a publisher. You are required, as per KAUST’s open access policy, to submit the "author accepted manuscript" version of your article to KAUST’s research repository and University Library will make it available to the world according to the publisher's policies with a link to the original article and DOI. You can also deposit associated datasets to the research repository with a DOI registration. The Library has improved the Repository services with integrations to several systems, tools, search engines and now this has the highest download rate with a global user base.
We are a signatory of the OA2020 initiative and closely monitor the recent trends and discussions about changes in scholarly communication and research publishing ecosystems.
