3rd KAUST Library Saudi Seminar held April 17-18, 2019
This is the third seminar in the KAUST Library Saudi Seminar series was held from April 17 - 18 at KAUST with the theme "Acquisitions in a Digitally Born Library: Best Practices and Challenges". More information is available at the event website: https://libguides.kaust.edu.sa/3rdSeminar.
Seminar was organised to share KAUST library acquisition best practices. Presentations addressed the challenges in various stages of handling the process and how to meet the user demands needs accurately and promptly. It provided a great experience with sharing of knowledge, experiences, achievements and some useful tips with other internal and international institutions. There are 23 delegates attended this seminar from 15 Saudi institutions.
Dr. Najah Ashry, Senior Associate to President & Vice President of National Strategies welcomed all delegates and noted that this seminar is happening on the right time, where KAUST national strategies are discussed and libraries are part of the discussion. Prof. Rick Anderson, Associate Dean for Collections & Scholarly Communication, Marriott Library, University of Utah, USA delivered keynote address on “Thinking Strategically about an Unsettled (and Unsettling) Future: Implications for Libraries of Current Trends in Acquisitions and Scholarly Communication”. Ms. Riyam Al-Saada, Head of Acquisition Unit, Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University did and invited presentations on “Acquisitions process, previously & currently at PNAU".
Other sessions were led by KAUST Library staff Ms. Ola Kabli, Ms. Leeyen Han, Mr. Ali AlQahtani, Dr. Nada Mursi and Ms. Gordana Latinovic-Rauski. KAUST Library Director Dr. J. K. Vijayakumar introduced the seminar and moderated the concluding session. Ms. Ola Kabli held a separate session with the delegates and initiated discussions to form an acquisitions librarians network in KSA.
